The digital pen & paper system consists of:
- Digital forms
Digital forms have a background pattern of dots printed in a grid format, each dot approx. 0.3mm from the next. Every pen stroke is recorded on the digital paper form in relation to this grid.
- The digital pen
The digital pen is built and writes exactly like a standard ballpoint pen. However, it also contains a camera, processor, memory, battery and communication unit that allows it to record every pen stroke and convert it into digital text using Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) software.
- Data processing
The digital pen and paper system requires 3 simple steps to process data:
1. Completion of the form using the digital pen – information is recorded.
2. Turn your pen into ‘send mode’ – it will send data to your data phone, or place
the digital pen into the cradle and data is automatically uploaded.
NB: the digital pen has 1MB storage so many forms can be completed before uploading is required.
3. Follow instructions on your data phone to upload forms directly to our online
server. Once completed, a copy of the data is retained on your data phone
until you have verified you are happy the data online is correct.
From a PC with internet access, log in to your company’s secure area of our server via www.longhanddata.com. You can then verify, review and manipulate data and run reports as required.
We have a real-time data collection demonstration to show you this process quickly and simply. Please telephone
